You definitely won’t be hearing me say “enough with the LV monogram already”. No matter how many monogram bags I’ve got, or how many of them I see on a daily basis, I will never get fed up by it. If you can’t stand it, there is no chance in hell you’d buy it no matter how nice the shape is or how beautiful it would look if it didn’t have the logo all over it. I respect everyone’s personal preferences and tastes. If you don’t like it you don’t like it, I don’t have to hear about it every day. I love it, and I’m perfectly happy whenever I see a new beauty with those two letters all over it. Call me a snob, call me whatever you want, but I love LV.

Coco Chanel wasn't just a fashion designer - she was the very first fashion icon. Born in 1883, Chanel was raised in a French orphanage. In 1912, she was backed by a wealthy aristocrat, Arthur Capel, who funded her first hat shop. Even during the Great Depression of the 1920's, Chanel's designs grew - thanks to word of mouth. Even though this was a time of tightened purse strings many people still found they could afford a $700 Chanel designer suit, from one of her Paris or Biarritz boutiques. After inventing Chanel No. 5 perfume, Chanel's name was on everyone's lips, so much so that director Samuel Goldwin commissioned her to dress the stars of his films, including Katherine Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor.

In 1940, Chanel was forced to close her boutiques and turned to nursing during WWI. When she got romantically involved with a Nazi officer and fled to Switzerland, Chanel was exiled for fifteen years from her beloved Paris, only to return to fashion in the 1950s, when she caught the appreciative gaze of American Hollywood.

Coco Chanel died in 1971, leaving her moniker in the hands of Karl Lagerfeld, who still uses the Chanel name and traditional style philosophy.

While the Armani Prive spring 2008 couture show featured some titillating high heel fashion that had me wondering how the models walked on daggers, Karl Lagerfield kept in simple, girly, and presumably comfy on the Chanel Couture runway. Seemingly, he seemed to channel Coco Chanel who once said “Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury.”

To wit, there was nary a single high heel on the fashion runway.

Of course these sequined flats could only go with this tweed number.

My favorite flats on the runway were these soft pink mary janes with ruffles on the vamp and side. Can’t you just image that one of the ballerinas in Edgar Degas‘ paintings would wear these?

Sadly, the remainder of the shoes on the Chanel runway were just a bit too plain for me.

and left me wishing that we could see updated, comfy versions of this lovely silver banded flat.

ne very commonly asked question on our Chanel Forum is on the difference between the Chanel Classic Flap and the Chanel Reissue 2.55 bags. I’ve scoured the forums this morning to educate myself, and our readers about the differences between the two. Let me start with a few historical facts on the Reissue.

HISTORY:

The lock on the Reissue is the original lock, it is called the Mademoiselle Lock as Ms Coco Chanel never married, the ‘CC’ lock was introduced to the Classic Flap Bags only in the 1980s by designer Karl Lagerfeld. The 2.55 in its name refers to the first release of the 2.55 bag in February of 1955. Coco Chanel grew up in an orphanage/convent, therefore, the double chain shoulder strap comes from when the children’s’ caretakers in the orphanage would dangle keys from their waists with the same type of chains as on the Reissue. Also, the zippered compartment on the inside of the front flap of the Reissue is where Coco sequestered her love letters, as she was having an affair at that time. The brownish red color of the inside represents the color of Coco and the rest of the children’s uniforms (the nuns’ were black with white trim: thus, the packaging on Chanel Parfum/Eau de Parfum/Eau de Toilette). The back outside flap of the Reissue actually marks where Coco would stash extra money!

Over the years there have been many variations to the original design of the 2.55, including the leather/fabric, the chain - metal vs. interwoven leather, single flap vs. double flap, and the closure - mademoiselle vs. interlocking CC. The 2.55 refers to all flap-style bags, including variations of the original! The term classic flap commonly refers to the flap with the interlocking CC closure and the leather interwoven chain.

In February 2005, Karl Lagerfeld re-made the 2.55 - exactly as Coco Chanel had made in 1955, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 2.55. It came to be known as the Reissue. Technically the term Reissue should only be used for the bags that were made to commemorate the original - so only those in 2005. However, it has become convenient to call all 2.55s that resemble the original 2.55 Reissues and all 2.55s that have the interlocking CCs Classic Flaps.

THE DIFFERENCES:

This thread, particularly post #57, gives a great amount of information on the differences between the two styles. If I may briefly summarize:

1. Closure/Locks: Classic has the double CC turn-style lock, the Reissue has the Mademoiselle lock (rectangular shape).
2. The handle: The reissue has an all chain handle, while the classic has leather interwoven between the chain links.
3. Reissue has a different type of leather, that is made to seem more worn than the caviar leather on the classics.
4. All the reissues have a double flap inside, whereas the Jumbo Classic does not.
5. The sizes on the Reissue are different than the sizes on the Classic Flaps.

Another perk is the adjustable leather shoulder straps and interior strap that can be adjusted to change the shape and capacity of the bags.

The Speedy is undoubtedly the quintessential Louis Vuitton bag. I doubt that many LV lovers never owned one to begin their obsession with the fine brand. One downside of it to many is that is lacks structure. No matter how much you load in the Speedy, it sags to the ground, unwilling to hold its fine form. To friends of the Speedy, there is now a slightly flashier sibling called the Louis Vuitton Damier Berkeley. Its name is derived from a chic London neighborhood, the Berkeley Square. The materials are common to other Damier canvas bags, smooth leather trim, a red micro suede lining and a golden “Louis Vuitton Inventeur” plaque on the front complete the picture. Its handles are adjustable in length, two side outside pockets offer additional storage room for cellphone or keys. With 12.4″ in width, it is only .4 inches wider than the Speedy and .7 inches taller.

We popped into Louis Vuitton Cologne and saw a great looking tote. For me, it was not a bag that I wanted him or I to leave with, but it is a great everyday bag nonetheless. The SA at Louis Vuitton said it is unisex, though I find it to be very masculine. The Louis Vuitton Utah Leather Kiowa Tote is designed with sturdy, yet supple hand-grained Utah calf leather and sports straps down the front of the bag. I am not blown away by this handbag, it is rather simple, but when it comes to giving a man a handbag, simple usually is the best route. The hardware is polished but is aged brass, so it is not too shiny for the man that does not care to draw attention to his man bag. It is always a plus to have a zip top closure, and the inside features a flat pocket and a cell phone pocket. Dimensions are still too small for a 17″ computer, but will fit the average laptop, 1*″x 12.9″x 5.85″.

While splurging for your little one, price is very important, to keep your little one lucky while not completely spoiled and indulged. It of course is all relative, as many who do not love handbags would never spend $375 on them self for a bag let alone on their child. I have seen many pictures of toddlers with this handbag, toting it around looking like a fashionista in the making. And I am sure some of you will hate the idea of giving a designer handbag to a three year old, but I am certain when I have a little girl she will be toting this bag around too. The monogram canvas is trimmed with natural cowhide and there are two rolled leather handles.

Even though I’m not escaping to any distant islands this year, Louis Vuitton has still released some beautiful new bags that will help get me through the dreary winter months. The new Mini Lin Croisette line was released on November 1 and contains a great selection of handbags and accessories sure to please everyone. The Mini Lin Croisette is a variation of the traditional Mini Lin line, part of the permanent collection; however, for the cruise collection the bags now come in two new colors, red and blue, and are subtly striped. When I picture red and white stripes I automatically think of candy canes, but not so with these new bags! The bags are trimmed in a gorgeous white pebbled leather. I am very impressed with this new collection and am curious to find out what you think too!

Some of the most successful Louis Vuitton handbag lines have been the ones in which Takashi Murakami collaborated with Marc Jacobs. The Multicolore line, Cherry Blossom line, Panda, and Cerises were all the works of Japanese pop artist Murakami. The smiling cherries of the Cerises line were what initially drew me into a Louis Vuitton store, but alas I was too late and they were completely sold out. Now Murakami and Louis Vuitton have joined forces again, this time selling limited edition (rumored to be only several hundred pieces available) Louis Vuitton accessories and bags at the Takashi Murakami exhibit at the Los Angeles MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art).

In addition, Murakami has also introduced a new character called ‘Chibi Kinoko’ which means little mushroom. If you are a fan of oversized bags then feast your eyes on this beauty that is available in the XL size (29.5” x 12.8” x 5.9”) and the XXL size (32.2” x 16.5” x 11.4”). Or, as I like to call them, enormous and ginormous! The Louis Vuitton XL and XXL are made from soft, luxurious Mahina leather with microfiber lining. Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2008 Ready To Wear Show

The color palette was beautiful and vibrant, full of blues, yellows, watermelon pinks, and so much more. However, Marc Jacobs decided to throw them all on one bag! Bags with 3 or more colors, plus different colored handles, are too much for me to handle (literally and figuratively). An interesting twist on the bags was somewhat psychedelic monogram patterns, as well as turning many of the iconic bags into frame bags with little tags hanging that stated their name (i.e. papillon, speedy, and alma). There are also bags with ‘Louis Vuitton’ spelled out all over the bag (Think last season’s Marc Jacobs bags that did the same). This season is definitely not for the faint-hearted, or for someone looking for a classic piece to carry for years. I am intrigued enough to wonder what bags will actually make it into production.

Since it was released, I have loved the monogram denim line. It is casual chic, with the logo still visible but a little less noticeable and a laid-back touch of style. Especially when I am in the Mid West, but even when in south Florida, laid back style goes a long way. Louis Vuitton offers an array of Denim products to meet your fancy! My next trip to the fabulous Bal Harbour Louis Vuitton shop will include my perusing the denim collection and picking up a little piece of blue.

The GM (16 x 12 x is big enough to carry around the kitchen sink, while the PM (13 x 9 x6) is just big enough to fit all the essentials without being overloaded.

The Louis Vuitton Suhali line costs a pretty penny but appeals to the crowd that loves Louis Vuitton and is not keen on logos. While goat leather is heavy, the simple style of the Louis Vuitton Suhali Lockit PM catches the eye. Smooth leather trim with contrast topstitching are perfect alongside golden brass hardware. For those who do not want to carry a heavier handbag, this may not be for you. Because the only option for carrying the bag is with the rolled leather handles, your arm may get tired easily. But it doesn’t mean that this bag is not gorgeous to admire. I would hope for a more luxurious lining, when the price is so high, but this handbag is merely lined with monogrammed textile lining. While I am not willing to shell out my credit card for this handbag, I do love it. Dimensions are 11.8″x 9.8″x 5.2″.

For those who appreciate meticulously crafted leather in an elegant timeless bag, the Louis Vuitton Suhali line is perfect. My mother and sister, aka Anti-logo-family-members, have always been drawn to this line. The sturdy and stunning Suhali goat leather offers divine structure. The Louis Vuitton Suhali Le Confident is a smaller handbag that packs a big punch. The contrast top stitching and golden brass hardware showcase the supple leather. Rivet detailing adds a special touch along with an exterior pocket with an S-lock closure. Not an everyday bag, but a very cute handbag if you are in the market for a small shoulder bag. Dimensions are 10.6″x 7″x 5.9″.

The spanking new LV Waterproof Keepall inherits the same measurements of the regular and loved Keepall 55. However, it has undergone serious steroid treatment in the advanced Louis Vuitton labs! The cowhide trim and handles were dumped for durable polyamide and polyurethane, the golden hardware swapped for brass and zamak pieces. This bag is the active traveler’s wet dream - even if you don’t end up submerging your Keepall in water, it is great to know you could (without ending up ruining your belongings). To me, this spacious bag could help me overcome my general disapproval of the monogram canvas. Still, is the advanced welding process (that ensures airtightness of the main compartment)

While I am not a huge monogram canvas fan, some still catch my eye and keep my attention. Every time I pop into the Louis Vuitton boutique, I am drawn to the Louis Vuitton Monogram Beverly MM. The slight ruching under the front flap and pleated sides adds sizzle. But it is the logo-engraved push-lock closure that really catches my attention. The golden brass hardware is the perfect accent on the LV monogram canvas. The natural cowhide trim paves the way to the focal point; the golden hardware closure. Easy to thrown on for a laid-back night out or dress it up, I love this. This handbag is nothing extraordinary, but if you love it like I do, you will see the beauty in it.

Rehab has done her body good; from the inside out. Lindsay Lohan keeps being snapped looking like a laid-back 20-something-year-old who is stylish and simple. I love that she wears an outfit that looks like it could be straight from my closet. Great wide leg jeans, a killer blue top, a stunning handbag, and a Twizler in her hand. Lindsay was sporting the limited edition Louis Vuitton Olympe Stratus GM, which is a lightweight, comfortable bag with a resin LV plaque and chunky braided handle and optional shoulder strap. Ashlee gets a nose job, Jessica gets John Mayer, and now both enjoy pouting and looking woeful wherever they go. Poor Simpson sister’s, I sure do feel bad for them. Their little mansions, their little bank accounts, their little plastic surgeons, their little boyfriends. Boo-hoo. What I realize from carrying my Chloe Paddington Tote is two things: a) it is heavy and b) poor moms having to carry the diaper bag. I will hunt down the perfect man diaper bag when the time comes, because there is no way that I will carry the baby and the bag at all times. But you know me, I will travel in style, just like the rest of you Purse Bloggers should. Louis Vuitton Damier Geant Bags For Dudes

When it comes to man bags I very partial to Louis Vuitton. This preference may be blamed on the LV Dersou being my very first high-end bag ever, but I think it’s also due to the simple fact that Vuitton manages to create such wonderful, irresistible pieces. While being in the market for a new addition to the slowly growing collection, I have been eyeballing the Louis Vuitton Loup (bottom picture) and the Belier (top), both from the Damier Geant line. While the Loup could function as a smaller daily messenger, the Belier would do really well with my Nikon D70S I got mid-last year (even though it is lacking inside compartments for lenses and other accessories). By the way, I am mildly confused why LV lists these two bags in the women’s bag section, they have masculine written all over them.

With photographers Mert Atlas and Marcus Pigott, Scarlett Johansson stepped foot in the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2007 advertising campaign with slighty tinted pink hair and the gorgeous skin we all are envious of.

“With the Spring/Summer 2007 collection, we wanted to create something very fresh, very feminine, very pretty”, says Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton Artistic Director. “And when it came time for the advertising campaign, we thought who would best represent this – someone young and fresh and slightly coquettish, with gorgeous skin and a figure made to wear bustier dresses and gold-heeled shoes, and we came up with Scarlett Johansson.”

The actress is thus the star of Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2007 advertising campaign, which captures the spirit of the ready-to-wear in a series of deliciously pretty visuals shot by photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Fusing echoes of 18th century fêtes galantes with an undercurrent of contemporary street style, the campaign depicts Scarlett Johansson as a not-so-innocent ingénue playing on a swing, wearing the collection’s delicate Liberty prints and ethereal voiles, and carrying the emblematic “That’s Love” shopper, filled with flowers as it was on the catwalk. The season’s other key accessories themes are also featured, including Polka Dots Flowers and Monogram Denim Patchwork bags, floral print hair bands and braided bracelets.

The line comes in two different colors: Silver and Gold. I must admit that I am not a huge fan of this new line, in fact the silver seems oddly reminiscent of aluminum foil and if you have trouble finding a mirror to touch up your makeup you can always use your bag! In addition, if you’re one of those people who doesn’t like to draw attention to yourself with your bag then this is definitely not for you. and is made of PVC, therefore causing me to question the durability of such a pricey bag. That said, the frenzy surrounding the Miroir line is unlikely to die down anytime soon and if you are contemplating buying one you should call Louis Vuitton immediately to place yourself on the waiting list, so that you can be one of the first to be carrying this season’s IT bag!

While I have no idea who Paris Hilton’s new friend in the picture is (feel free to educate me), I sure know the fab bag that she’s sporting during their shopping spree. It’s no secret that I’ve turned into a Louis Vuitton bags lover! Obviously, being a fresh enthusiast, I had to educate myself about their whole lineup of bags. The bag in the picture is the Louis Vuitton Stamped GM, from LV’s recent Stamped Collection. Vuitton remembers back to their days as a trunk and luggage manufacturer with the big stamped trunk and bags house logo that’s been used since 1905. The GM is a spacious handbag in suede calf leather with double-zippered pocket and pressed stud detail. The inside is lined in LV’s signature monogram micro lining. What a beauty.

Years ago I would have wanted to have nothing to do with the color pink. Pink equated to girlyness and I was more of the girl who refused to play softball but played baseball with the boys. Times have changed and little Miss Tomboy became quite the fashion forward accessory loving girly pink girl. So for some high fashion and pink color, Louis Vuitton is right there to grab any girl’s attention. The Louis Vuitton Baggy PM is made with a monogram denim canvas with natural cowhide trim. While this bag does come in denim, pink and green, the pink is getting my vote as of now. The inside of the bag is lined with the softest saffron microfiber. On the outside the gold-finished brass hardware, flat zipped pocket, and two front pockets with press-lock closures emanate as the focal points. The bag measures 11.7″ L x 8.6″ H x 5.1″ W. Louis Vuitton is a name that can never go unnoticed, and the pink denim just makes this brand appeal more to the inner-girl in all of us.

While I was tweaking the blog tonight, I noticed that the Briefcases catagory has collected some dust in the past months. Strange actually, for there is so many elegant and chic briefcases to talk about. I figured I might as well freshen things up. And why not go all out with my favorite of all, the Louis Vuitton Ambassador Briefcase. I want it, now. Worked in LV’s textured Epi leather, it truely does not even need an LV logo at all. It features a classic s-locl closure and a lined interior with pockets for cell, wallet and miscellaneous other accessories. An exterior back pockets rounds of the 16 by 12 inch briefcase. How very lovely, once I get done with my grad studies, I sure know what I’ll be sporting to work. At a price of over $1,800, I better start saving already.

The Louis Vuitton Globe Shopper Cabas MM shows off the Louis Vuitton logo that dates back to 1905 on a linen patch on top of this cotton and linen canvas bag. The bag is accented with brass hardware which gives off a little antique feel. The logo that you can’t help but miss is actually of the Historic Louis Vuitton Trunks & Bags logo. With that being said, this bag is actually simple and kind of cute, but again, I just don’t like the wham-bam-logo. Trimmed with natural cowhide and sporting two engraved buckles at each side, this bag does have some pluses to it. The inside is lined in polyester-and-cotton Monogram Mini lining and has an interior pocket plus and interior snap=hok closure. Sizing up at 13″ x 11.8″ x 3.1″, I feel like this bag will be a toss up between likes and don’t likes.

You’ve made it in this world if you have a Louis Vuitton bag named after you. I guess I can stop believing that I have made it in this world, because there surely isn’t an LV named after me (I’d like to think that in the future there will be someday?!). The new Louis Vuitton Audra is named after an iconic Broadway singer, Audra McDonald, which gives a new appeal to the Monogram Multicolore canvas line.
